I received a phone call to come in for an interview. The interview was fairly typical. The position involved creating designs for socks. I was asked to complete a lengthy sample project designing 9 pairs. I felt this was unnecessary, especially since I had experience with this type of product and company and had extremely relevant sock designs in my portfolio. I did it against my better judgement and never received a response, even after following up. It's unfortunate that this practice is rampant in the design industry. A job seeker is at the mercy of the company if they hope to find a job ad are often taken advantage of by companies looking for free work and designs to knock off.
