      Entry-Level Reporter Interview

      8 May 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Patch (New York, NY) in Feb 2016

      Interview

Applied online, and the Project Manager reached out for an in-person interview. Office is a dingy, start-up-like office space with only a small handful of staff members. The interview went very well and I was sent an edit test the day after. The allotted time for the test was quite absurd—1 hour and 45 min. for a lengthy, 3-part test rewriting stories. I also noticed this was an "Editor test," not a "Reporter test," which was the role I applied for. I have some experience in the news field, but this test was more suited for a mid-level editor—not an entry-level reporter. Ended up finishing over the time limit and they went silent. Not great for a company that's trying to rebuild itself after the AOL-fallout.
