      Public Relations/Marketing Associate Interview

      30 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Norcross, GA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Peak Enterprises (Norcross, GA) in Sept 2015

      Interview

I only went to the interview because I set it up, and I believe that it is rude to cancel, and I figured I would hear what they had to say. First and foremost, if you go to LinkedIn, Monster, Indeed, etc., and type in "public relations", "marketing" or "advertising" Peak, Inc. will be one of the companies that pop up with multiple open positions, that, in and of itself, is a bad sign. This company is not looking for professionals in the communication field, they want door to door sales people and just ask for a fancy title. This was proven to me in my interview. I am a public relations practitioner currently working in the field. I hold a bachelor's degree in communication. That is only relevant to prove I am familiar with the field. So, my interviewer described how the company works, in between him playing on his phone during the entire "interview". He said, using AT&T as an example, Peak, Inc. gets a list of consumers who wanted AT&T's service, however it was not available in their area. So their information was gathered, and when service became available, Peak Inc. went to those peoples home to solicit its clients service. To me, that is clearly a salesman...the literal definition of a door-to-door salesman. I could have asked him, why are you calling this a marketing position, when it is clearly sales, but I did not. I asked one question, that led to the interviewer getting very offended and belittling. I asked, if intercept marketing usually has the worst rate of return, why is it used, and does Peak Inc. use any other sort of marketing tactic. There was a literal moment of silence, and he said that he had no idea what I was talking about. I explained to him what it was, and gave a brief marketing lesson, and he just became offended. To "prove" he was legit, he disregarded my initial question, turned my resume over, and started writing a math problem. "If we contact 100 people, and only 75 sign up U-Verse Bundle at $150. I don't know if you are good at math, but that is a lot of money." That was, verbatim, his response to the question, "Why do you use intercept marketing?" PLEASE NOTE: Companies like this do not bother me. I think this is a great way for companies to make money. It is a smart business move. That being said...be honest in what you are looking for.

      Interview

I applied on Indeed and got a call the next day. They asked me to come in that day and I rushed there for an interview two hours later. They called me within 30 minutes of me leaving and said I got a second interview for the next morning. I decided that night that it wasn't something I was interested enough in doing so I didn't go for the second interview.
