From my interview with macro-eyes I got the impression that they still fairly new to recruitment and still learning how to hire new ML scientists to join their team, so they might be sampling the candidate pool until they find someone interesting.
I saw their posting in May 2020 on a mailing list for machine learning. I applied for the job and they told me that I was selected to do a take-home data science challenge and a 1 hour technical interview. It seemed odd to jump straight into the take-home without even a phone screen first. They told me to spend atleast 5 hours on the challenge (but it took me longer because of the write-up portion) and the 1 hour technical interview was conducted right after I submitted the take home challenge. After all this they essentially ghosted me. I followed up but never heard anything back.
They seem like a cool company, but don't spend too much time with them if you aren't very experienced as they will not respect your time if you aren't what they want. For context I have a research masters degree in engineering and 1-2 years of work experience.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
The take home challenge had two parts. For the first they give you a dataset (tabular data) about children's vaccinations (which ones, when they were taken) from a low resource country. The goal is to build a model that will predict which children will not complete all their required vaccinations before a certain age. The data is very messy and limited so they want to see how you deal with that too. You also need to provide a write up for next steps. For the second part of the challenge, they give you a healthcare scenario and you are supposed to imagine that you are the lead data scientist on the project and outline in 1-2 paragraphs how you would approach this project and what types of problem statements you would formulate in order to help improve the health supply chain.
For the 1 hour technical interview afterwards, it was questions to get to know me and what kind of algorithms I'm familiar with and other questions like 'what is your favourite machine learning algorithm', 'what are of ML are you interested in? Give an example of something interesting in that area' They never spoke about or asked me anything about my solution to the take home challenge during this interview. They said they were looking for a candidate that will bring something new to the team.
