In my instance, they used a head hunter, who found my profile on Linked-In. At other times they have used online job boards. I first interviewed with the head hunter, who then discussed me with the company. An interview appointment was scheduled. I was interviewed by the VP/General Counsel and the Solar Engineer (who also performed certain HR functions), and also the CEO. I was onsite for about 4 hours. I was then called back to meet the wife of the CEO who is a co-owner of the company. That interview lasted about an hour. On that same day I was given an HR aptitude/assessment test, on which I was told I received the highest score they had seen. (Clearly that test is not a true measurement of one's future success at the company, as I really didn't fit in and am no longer there). It took a few days before my employment offer came, and then another couple of weeks to get the contract details ironed out. There is no HR department at this company. HR functions are spread among several higher-ranking employees, so onboarding is not a smooth operation.
