I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Perkbox in Aug 2019
Interview
I only went through the first initial stage interview with the Head of Talent Acquisition and completed the online technical test. I had applied months ago, but then they dug out my application recently and explained that they had hired lots of developers but were looking for more. So we set up an initial call and we briefly went over my CV.
The guy I spoke with was a little curt I would say- that was my first impression. He didn't go into much detail about anything either but gave me the bare minimum.
He was clearly disappointed to hear of my lack of experience in one framework that would be required to use. He then moved straight to salary expectations and even though I said I was very negotiable for the right role (and I'm sure it was mentioned in my application) he went on immediately saying how they wouldn't be able to match my current salary expectations..then even mentioned 'If i'm not mistaken, I can hear a small child in the background". Huh? What does that have to do with anything?
He was indeed mistaken, but by the time I had just digested and figured out that is what he really did say, the conversation had moved on. He then said that "ironically" I might do really well in the technical test they would send me because I've been learning the specific language in my spare time. Ok, cheers for that then.
I kind of felt insulted..if he had bothered to read my application/CV and I didn't match up to what they were looking for, then why did he call me if it's such an issue?
I was sent the test and it was time boxed. Which was fine, I actually found it very easy "ironically" and I got an email from the guy that they wanted to get me in face to face to meet some of the team".
I was genuinely excited but because I had always been honest about what I can and can't do, skillwise, I was a little worried about the format of the f2f interview. I didn't know what it meant- Was it informal or not?
So I asked him to let me know what the format would be and would I be required to bring anything like my laptop- (e.g. maybe there is a technical test onsite to do? Maybe there is problem solving?)
I didn't get any information like that, it was all so terse. His only response was "Bring whatever you feel will endorse your application". Again, thanks for that..
I was really put off by it. I don't think this guy cares at all. I'm interviewing with other places right now and all their head of talent acquisitions have been nothing but reassuring, informative, helpful and understanding. I'm sorry, but I feel like it says a lot of about this company if this is the attitude they take.
I think this guy needs to realise that this is as much an opportunity for me to assess them as it is for them to assess me if I'm the right fit.
Perhaps this might not bother anyone else but first impressions matter to me and that was my take home message.
I ended up emailing them and withdrawing my application.

Interview
I've been working in this country for around 6 years and overall I have 15 experience of working but I have never seen something like that. Changing the interview times twice and then in the day of the interview first call for rescheduling then change the face to face interview to call interview in an email and 5 minutes after that call again and cancel the interview!
