The interview process doesn't really gauge your technical aptitude so much as your personality. While culture is important, this led to their being a reasonable gap in skills despite your colleague having the same job title and responsibilities, much less the misguided leadership and hiring practices.

Interview
I had a quick phone interview before the in person. The in person interview was not very technical in nature nor did it convey the difficulty and stress of the position I was getting hired for. It seemed more like a personality interview.
