      Software Engineer Interview

      24 Apr 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Produce Pay in Apr 2021

      Interview

I had a great experience with the transparent interview process! I liked how the interviews had a balance of assessing your communication skills, thoughtfulness as an engineer, and problem-solving abilities. The whole process definitely showed glimmers about the "great engineering culture" mentioned in a few of the Glassdoor reviews!

      Software Developer Interview

      5 June 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I interviewed at Produce Pay (Los Angeles, CA)

      Interview

Technical phone screen followed by an in-person interview. The in-person interview was a front-end problem to sove and then back-end is a separate probablem to solve. They sit there and watch you do everything from scratch and I never claimed to be a front end developer so I'm not sure why this was even part of the interview. Although the front end question was easy. It's unclear exactly the skill sets they're looking for since "it doesn't matter what you use to solve". Their company Wifi was shotty and overall not working. They mentioned that whenever that happens he hops on the hotel wifi. It felt very unprofessional and everyone in the interview seemed a bit distracted. I felt like I was it was an uphill battle before I we even started and rushed. After what felt like 45 minutes I finally offered to tether my cell phone for the interview. I asked directly for feedback and they said I solved both problems and addressed most of the caveats but started off slowly. Later passed on the offer since they considered I wasn't senior enough. They should fix their network before casting slowness on the interviewee maybe it was just the wrong day for me.

As the person who proctored that interview exercise, I want to thank you for your feedback. I obviously cannot discuss interview results in a public forum, but I'd like to respond to a couple of the structural points you raise: 1) We definitely had WiFi trouble that day, which made the interview process frustrating for everyone. I'm genuinely sorry about that. Thank you for offering to use your phone. After that was set up, we made sure to give you the same amount of time all candidates receive. 2) Your resume and profile state "full stack" and list ReactJS, JavaScript/ES6 and other front-end technologies in multiple places. On that basis we decided to include our front-end exercise. 3) The feedback issue was my fault for being unprepared, and I apologize. I had not been asked that before and I did not know if Produce Pay had a policy regarding giving feedback to interviewees. As a result, my answer in the moment was awkward and incomplete. Immediately afterward I addressed that question with my supervisor so it has been corrected for future interviews. We appreciate the feedback, because we are always trying to improve our processes.
