      Production Scientist Interview

      14 June 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Fitchburg, WI
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Promega (Fitchburg, WI) in May 2018

      Interview

The process started with an email from a recruiter asking to set up a phone interview. We settled on a date and time, and I received a call. This first interview was a basic HR-type phone call and lasted about 15-20 minutes. The same day, I received a follow-up email to set up another phone interview with the supervisor and group leader I would potentially be working with. Again, we settled on a date and time, and I received a call. These questions were almost all situational, with very few technical questions asked, other than my previous experience. This phone call lasted about 25 minutes. The next day, I received an email asking me to set up an on-site interview. Prior to the on-site, I was asked to take an online assessment that lasted about 45 minutes. Portions of this assessment were timed, so be sure to take it without any distractions. I was also provided with benefit information so I could look it over and bring any questions I had with me. The on-site interview process was long. My day was scheduled from 9:00am to about 1:45pm with one 15 minute break and an hour for lunch. I met with various groups from within the company. They all asked me a series of questions - many of them similar from group to group, and almost all situational - with each group having about 30-45 minutes scheduled. The largest group I met with at one time consisted of 3 people. Lunch was also an interview, although definitely more casual. I was also unexpectedly asked to do some lab set-up, so dress appropriately. I heard back at the one-week mark that they went with another candidate. At no time during this process was pay discussed, but they were very open about all other aspects of this position.

      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Promega in June 2015

      Interview

Applied online through company website. Received an email less than a week later asking to schedule a phone interview. Responded and didn't get a response for 2 days, so emailed again. Person apologized and said they didn't receive the first email, asked if phone interview the next day was fine. I suspected the first email was received, as I always check my sent/outgoing mailbox, and that it was an excuse to hold the phone interview the next day, almost like they were attempting to catch me off guard. I can see companies not wanting to prolong time before phone interviews to prevent people from "researching" too much. Got the call right on time the next day, spoke to someone in HR, not the same person who emailed me to set up the time. Very pleasant person to speak with. Total time was about 30 minutes. Said I'd know in 10 business days if I'd receive an invitation for an on-site interview. Was exactly 10 days later when I received her email. Politely told me they would be seeking other candidates.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Standards, "describe your experience", "what's a difficult experience you had, and how did you overcome it", and asked how you'd rank your ability in specific skills.

      Production Scientist Interview

      4 Oct 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Promega in Mar 2015

      Interview

The interview process was long and drawn out, however it was not unpleasant. Started with a short phone interview with HR, only lasted perhaps 10 minutes. Then transitioned to an official phone interview with the supervisor I would be working with, this lasted perhaps 30 or 45 minutes. This focused mostly on my previous experience. Because I was living out of state the next step was a longer interview via skype with the entire team I would be working with as well as another HR interview. This skype interview process lasted about three hours and was more in-depth. I enjoyed getting to meet everyone I would be working with, it allowed me to visualize what work there would be like. After the interview it did take a couple of weeks before I heard back about getting the job. Before getting the job I also had to complete a personality type test online and submit references. Overall, perhaps a month or month and a half process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One question asked was about time management and prioritization, requiring that I give an example of how I personally manage my time.
