Typical interview with questions about the industry and what your previous experience was like. How you are able to work with other people and what your values are and also about your ability to be a team player and meet expectations
The interview process seemed to focus more on referring employees than the mortgage industry. I wouldn’t recommend, but if ou are a head hunter that could be a great deal
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Prospect Mortgage (Westlake Village, Los Angeles, CA) in Oct 2016
Interview
I was contacted by a recruiter for Prospect Mortgage who said that they worked for the company and found my resume online at one of these job boards. The recruiter asked about my experience and told me about the position for a Loan Officer Assistant in Westlake Village, CA. I told him that I was interested and he went on to describe the position. The office in Westlake Village, CA according to the recruiter, is primarily there to help the lead loan officer in the company who brings in over around 100 deals a month on average.
I went into the interview on a Monday morning and was called by the recruiter just to make sure I was making it to the interview. The woman conducting the interview told me that they had a new computerized test that they just implemented. However, she did not know how to get the computer started and said she would send the link for the test to do at home. During the interview I was told that I needed NMLS for this position as I would would be contacting borrowers on behalf of the primary loan officer to collect information and enter it into encompass. The position did not require processing as there were dedicated processors who did not speak to customers directly, so this was an in between a processor and loan officer position. The interviewer told me once again that we were handling files for the main Loan Officer and that they had six loan officer assistants that on average closed 15-20 files a month, but the volume was increasing so they had to add on more. The compensation was good and included bonuses for closed files, most closed files and timely passing through processing/underwriting were also given bonuses. I was asked general questions about my experience as well as questions about taking loan applications. When the interview was over I was told that she would be interviewing through the week and that either my recruiter or the interviewer herself would in contact with me by the end of the week. The recruiter called me afterward and asked how it went and said that he would talk to the interviewer and call me back by the end of the day.
I did not receive a call or the computerized test, so the following day I called the interviewer. I was then told that the interviewer was in Fresno, CA for the rest of the week and left a message for her. I then called the recruiter to ask for a link to the test to complete and left a message for him as he was not in. The following day I got a call back from the recruiter saying that the interviewer is in Fresno again and that they were planning on moving their Fresno office to Westlake. The recruiter said that she forgot and the company was not used to giving the tests yet, but he would send me a link to the test which he did later that day.
The test was timed at about 1 minute a question and pertained to general mortgage loan guidelines and procedures. It did not give me results afterward, just a completed notice. I emailed the recruiter confirmation that the test was completed that afternoon.
A week later I didn't hear back so I called the recruiter on Tuesday (Monday was a holiday). I did not get a return call until the following day by the recruiter. He was apologetic for the delay and said that he would verify if the interviewer got the test results and let me know that evening what happened.
I did not get a call that evening. I called the recruiter back two days later on a Friday morning and left him a message asking if he had any information. I did not get a call that day or the next week, so I called back the following Wednesday and left another message for the recruiter. I never heard back from anyone.
