I interviewed with RMS Beauty at the beginning of February. The hiring manager told me she would send me a writing test to complete by the end of that day. After multiple follow-ups, I finally received the writing test exactly two weeks later on Thursday, February 22 with a due date of Friday, March 1.
I took a day off from work to do the test, provided multiple options for each writing prompt, and submitted my completed test two days early on Wednesday, February 28th. Within the next month, I followed up 4 or 5 times just seeking confirmation that my test was even received. I never got any response.
I finally followed up with another RMS employee on LinkedIn whom I had spoken to previously. She was not involved in the hiring process for this role but told me that the hiring manager I had interviewed with had just started her maternity leave. She was also kind enough to send an internal note regarding my application. That was at the end of March, and no one from RMS ever reached out again.
I happened to see just a day or two ago on LinkedIn that someone else was hired for the position. I was never sent anything regarding my application, no confirmation that my writing test was received, no rejection note, nothing.
In my almost 10 years of copywriting experience, I have never had such a negative interviewing experience with a brand. It's so unfortunate that this is still happening. Companies like RMS expect prospective employees to do UNPAID writing tests and, in turn, we just get ghosted. The lack of respect for creatives is REAL.
