I applied online. I interviewed at Ramblin Jackson
Interview
Applied and received an assignment from the Executive Assistant/HR person. The assignment instructions were vague. I had two friends who are marketing experts review the instructions and they were confused. There were no specifics about what type of content was expected. Was it a writing exercise, a design exercise, or both? They also included a link to a draft chapter of the owner's book (which appears to not have an editor yet) but didn't give any context for how to use the chapter. I did my best with the unclear instructions, although it seemed like the vagueness may have been purposeful to see how the applicant would react. If that's the case, that may indicate the management style. There was some irony because the owner follows the "Traction" startup ethos which includes ensuring that management expectations are very clear. My suggestion to the EA/HR person and the owner would be to have some people you trust test your applicant assignment instructions and revise based on their feedback.
