I had the first interview with the hiring manager based in Singapore, who was enthusiastic about me, and was passed to the next three rounds of interviews with an Account Executive, a Sales Engineer and the GM for ANZ. The GM invited me to the Summit that was being held in Melbourne at the Ritz-Carlton. I was also given an offer informally pending a background check, which will conclude today.
After arranging this with HR, on the day I unexpectedly got my period, which was exceedingly painful. I was unable to take my usual pain medication as it was a contradiction with the surgery for the inside of my nose which I had the week prior. I had booked this procedure well in advance, but felt I could not refuse the invitation. Because I was also unable to get rid of the mucus inside my throat with my nasal rinse, I had phlegm which made my voice husky. I arrived at the venue and the kind staff assisted me with finding a sanitary pad among other things. I met a number of team members and watched a couple of presentations, which were excellent, however as I was a guest, but not an attendee I was standing, in heels, as I felt it was not my place to take a seat.
I left around lunch and let the person at the desk know I wasn't feeling well. I also was allowed to take a book that was published, and read it cover to cover. It is well written and I enjoyed it. I am happy to return it.
I received an email today stating 'After a series of discussions with the team, I'd like to inform you that we will not proceed further with your candidacy at this time. There are internal referrals that are deemed better suited for the role.'
I'd like to take the opportunity to say I am disappointed. Supporting women is important, and being the nature of the cybersecurity industry, empathy and compassion towards our clients and prospects is important. However, in light of this decision, I feel that as a woman, it was not extended towards me.
This role was going to involve a lot of travel, which I undertook in my previous role, and I've always been able to navigate any unexpected situations with ease. However, on this occasion, it was not possible. In addition, I am vegan, and staying for lunch would have been strange as it was too soon to have a request included.
Should your referrals not work out, I leave the door open.
