      Social Media/PR Manager Interview

      11 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Reem Acra Bridals (New York, NY) in Aug 2017

      Interview

Met with HR via phone, and then the CFO in-person. The only negative in my interview with the CFO was, he kept laughing at me every time I explained my entrepreneurial and intellectual strengths. He also told me I talked to much, which I don't think I did (Personally, I don't think he was smart enough to keep up with what I was saying). I had to dumb down my resume for him to understand (Which he requested). I also has to revise it, to make it easier for him. This response from a CFO giving an interview is not only unprofessional, but it also shows how disrespectful a lot of older people are towards young people in business (The CFO is over 50 years old at the least). Reem Acra is not an equal opportunity employer. I was qualified for the job and I interviewed very well (Confirmed by the CFO). After following up via phone, the CFO informed me he hired someone who was "Perfect". How insulting to say to another applicant via phone? I noticed on LinkedIn, there also aren't many black people with the company (Hmmm, interesting!). Nevertheless, the candidate that the CFO said he hired who was "so perfect" clearly wasn't perfect, because that chosen candidate left within weeks. The role was reposted last week. I reached out via email again. Human Resources, CC'ing the CFO said "We appreciate your tenacity, but we're moving forward with other applicants". This shows how terrible Reem Acra is with recruitment, and why their internal culture is the way it is. They also used feedback and tips I provided in the interview and included them in the new PR / Social Media Manager job description. I heard terrible things about Reem Acra from industry friends. I read the Glassdoor reviews, but chose to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, when I am told there is nothing wrong with my candidacy, but you still won't hire or re-interview me after you repost the job. This proves to me that the company is not one I want to be a part of it. It also shows me, the company is not an EOE and there is a major lack of seriousness in finding the right person for the job to help grow the business. I sent a very detailed message to the HR Manager and CFO about this issue, and how they handle their recruitment processes. I doubt change will happen anytime soon, but I hope it does for the sake of future employees.
