      Mid/Senior Front End Developer Interview

      18 Aug 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at RemoteLock (Denver, CO) in July 2019

      Interview

Before I begin, a huge shout out to Rafael (hiring manager) at Remote Lock, he was always genuine and prompt in all his responses throughout, and when looking for a job in this field, that's well needed. I was pleasantly surprised on how easy going the take home coding challenge was, but as the Senior Full Stack guy had mentioned, some of the critiques were more than a bit nit-picky. Understandably, the goal is to see how well you code, and as any over achieving programmer can relate to, you want your code clean, concise and short, right? I'm a little bummed that some points were taken off for using a short hand term like"val", or destructing an API call as in, .then((res) => ) vs. .then(({ data }) => ), then finding a pretty well suited work around that kept the destruct to complete the second live coding challenge interview, which wasn't up to standards, *used a model number rather than a "unit type" :(* . This could just be mismatching coding styles, which is what I'm chalking it down to, but as a current Lead Developer, I would more than welcome different styles of coding, rather than what seemed to of been a search for a programmer who matches the current style of the sole front end developer. But before I go off on tangents, I would of really enjoyed working with this team as they all seem very easy to get along with, and truly enjoy their craft, which is an awesome find. Although my critique may of sounded a little sour at points (just really wanted this one :p), it's just a bit of advice for finding other talent out there that could be overlooked just for the sake of a few little conflicting styles in each others work. Good luck to the team, and all the best!
