      Principal Engineer Interview

      18 Apr 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Hyderābād
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Reputation (Hyderābād) in Feb 2023

      Interview

The weirdest interview of all. I was told by the recruiter there will be 3 tech rounds and one managerial round of interviews but I ended up having 6 tech interviews at the end of the process. Now talking about the JD I was told it was a Frontend role with someone having advanced JS and React skillsets. 1st Tech Round- Basic and Advanced JS concepts and some problem-solving 2nd Tech Round (US)- Advanced JS concepts, Some problem-solving, and some day-to-day code snippets 3rd Tech Round (US) - Low-level system design using React and Javascript After these rounds, The recruiter told me that I was highly recommended for this role by the USA panels, I need to take a couple more interviews with some big guns based out of India. Little did I know, this is where my misery would start. 4th Round (IN) - Here I got to know that the role was for a full-stack. I was asked about nodeJS architecture, messaging queues, API implementation details, How CDN works, how to manipulate CDN, etc. Since I am a frontend developer I have very little exposure to these tech stacks and my answers were not satisfactory to the interviewer. 5th Round (IN) - Some advanced JS concepts and a low-level system design discussion After this round, the recruiter told me I need to take one more interview with the top gun of India and it will be mostly a managerial round 6th Round (IN) - Here the guy was surprised to see that I have only frontend skills, He was adamant that the role is full stack and the hired person has to work on full-stack (which everyone will do anyway). I was asked about NodeJS architecture, Thrift API, and some JS question (which I think was to complete the formalities) After all these steps, The recruiting team did not respond to my call and mail for a week and then replied that you are not technically aligned. Despite having a lower position open, they did not offer me or talked to me about it to make things work. I was open to that also and since then the team has ghosted me. This is absolutely rubbish. If you are taking 6.5 hours of someone’s time and then realize that the person is not suitable, there should be a proper explanation or follow-up in place. One piece of advice to the Team and organization is, Hire the right people for the right jobs. If you take 6 rounds of tech interviews to tell someone that they fall short then there must be a big gap between the interviewers and communications among themselves. Furthermore, PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT everyone to be a Full Stack, if the role demands full stack then screen the right candidate, DO NOT WASTE ANYONE'S TIME. If Your India team is under such people who do not seem to differentiate between Frontend and Fullstack, then you guys are in a big big trouble. Sooner or later they will run the company to the ground
