The interview process at Retailors (Nike Canada) was thorough, lasting 5rounds in total. The first five rounds were honestly a great experience — the hiring manager, HR, and other team members were all kind, communicative, and made me feel valued and seen throughout.
However, the final round with the CEO was unfortunately a stark contrast. The energy during this meeting felt tense and unwelcoming right from the start. Rather than engaging in a collaborative or curious dialogue, the CEO came across as combative and dismissive, as if the decision had already been made before the conversation even started.
I walked away feeling like the CEO wasn’t looking to add a strong team player, but rather to assert dominance — which created an uncomfortable power dynamic. It was difficult not to feel that there was an undertone of bias during this interaction. As a person of color, I sensed that my words were not being received with the same openness or fairness as they might have been from someone else.
Outcome:
I was told post-interview that they were seeking a “more senior profile” — despite the fact that the rest of the team had already expressed positive feedback and alignment with my background. This vague reasoning felt like a cop-out, especially after such a long and well-aligned process.
Final thoughts:
If you’re applying here, be prepared because they abandon you after interview process without acknowledgement. Also do look for other review you will see the similarities. good luck
