I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rice University (Houston, TX) in Nov 2011
Interview
E-mailed the professor I wanted to work with. Scheduled an interview which consisted of a 1-hour presentation with lots of questions and a 1-on-1 talk with the professor. Met a few of the lab members.
what is the research experience you had is essential in getting the job and they are also concern with the general personality you have. after all, it's an academic position that is only offered to suitable fresh graduate student. if you want to rock the interview, prepare enough to show them that you know what you do.
