I applied in Summer 2014. I found the job on NYFA and I was contacted immediately for an in-person interview. I met with the current Admin (whose job I was interviewing for) and one of the Senior Assistants to the Partners. It was clear they were in a rush. Seemingly, a lot of their questions were to determine if I would be a problem. They asked me where I lived (which was listed on my resume) and how long it took me to get there. When I said my commute was an hour, they thought that was long. They asked when I could start and I said two weeks because I had to give notice at my current job obviously. They wanted to fill the position by the next Monday because it would give the current assistant one week to train the newcomer. I was interviewing on a Thursday. They asked my salary requirements. I said 30-35K, and it was clear that was too high.
The whole interview barely lasted 20 minutes. I used their bathroom before I left and I approached the current Admin to left her know I was leaving, her response was, "The exit's that way." She was so conceited! She treated me like I was stupid and wasting her time. She didn't even know how to turn on the lights in the conference room. They wasted my time when they should have done a phone interview to screen applicants first. When I reached the lobby to leave the building, the security guard was surprised to see me back so soon. He thought maybe my appointment had been cancelled.
With the time crunch they were going through, it's obvious the Admin was leaving for a reason. I've seen the position reposted almost every year. That much turnover is really bad.
