      Interview

Overall a positive call with a recruiter. Then an awkward interview with a pretentious peer who kept interrupting me. Their newly hired director did not start yet and the peer was a gatekeeper.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Robinhood in Dec 2023

      Interview

This was a very confusing experience. I was contacted by a recruiter after applying for the job on LinkedIn shortly before the holidays. I was really excited about this company and felt I was a good fit. After a 45 ish minutes phone screen, I was invited to interview with a member of the team the role supports (not the hiring manager), which is where things got a little weird. The interview was conducted over Google Hangout and the person interviewing me barely looked at me the entire time, was clearly multitasking, and made it pretty clear that he had somewhere else to be. He barely asked me about my experience and instead focused the conversation on a “case study” about a hypothetical music streaming service with only broad connections to the services the company offers in the banking sector. The whole thing lasted maybe 20 minutes. I followed up with the recruiter who informed me that the team would be making a hiring decision the following week, before receiving an automated email that I was no longer being considered. It’s unclear what skill set is needed for this role, so I asked for feedback and haven’t received a response. The role is continually reposted, so I am not sure they are seriously trying to fill it. The recruiter was extremely knowledgeable and clear, but the other interviewer gave me the impression that I was wasting his time, despite the nearly 10 years of relevant experience I was prepared to bring to the role. For additional context, I’m actively employed and not interviewing for other opportunities.
