I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Robinhood (New York, NY) in Oct 2024
Interview
This was my second time interviewing at Robinhood. I made it to the final round both times. The second time I was told I’d receive an offer, but then they ultimately decided not to move forward. Reflecting on this experience, I had interviewed with +14 employees over the course of one year, which felt excessive.
I found my interviews went pretty smoothly, but for the case study, the interviewer didn’t do the best job facilitating. They had asked an open ended question, I asked some clarifying questions and they said “I don’t know, what do you think?” With each question I had, this was the response I got, and it made it really difficult to have a conversation this way. In my interview with an engineer, I was asked over 10 behavioral questions. I got the impression he was only supposed to ask me 2 or 3, but instead went through every one and only left 2 minutes for me to ask him questions.
It’s a disappointment because I was really interested in this role and liked the hiring manager a lot, but it sounds like I may have dodged a bullet both times. There were a couple red flags I was willing to overlook - few people I met with seemed genuinely happy, and I definitely got the impression the culture was intense/morale was low. Any company that strings you along ultimately shows their true colors, and the dream to work there is officially over for me.
