      Technical Support Engineer Interview

      19 June 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Rootly (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2025

      Interview

I went through several rounds for a Technical Support Engineer role at Rootly, including a technical interview and a full take-home assignment. I was genuinely excited about the opportunity—this was one of the few companies where I felt like I was almost at the finish line. Then, out of nowhere, I received a “hiring paused” email. No context, no follow-up, and no one replied to my emails after that—not even the recruiter. I later saw others posting about receiving offers after the pause, which made the silence even more confusing and frustrating. This is not how you treat candidates who’ve put time, effort, and trust into your process.

      Application

      Interview

Speedy process but the team who interviews the candidate in panel interview is very straight forward and has arrogant vibe. They were busy working on their computers during the interview so felt disconnect. So I was just talking and felt like not being valued.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Very repetitive and vague questions about how would you support the customer.

      Interview

Absolutely horrendous experience all around. After probably 6 rounds of interviews I barely managed to get a response back that I’d been passed on for the roles. Since then I’ve spoken with multiple members of the team who said they’d be open to conversations about other roles, told me set time aside to discuss and then ghosted, despite continuing to see them post and interact on LinkedIn where we were primarily communicating before the sudden and aiming arbitrary ghosting. Truly the most abysmal experience I’ve ever had interviewing with a company.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What didn’t they ask me round after round after round of interviews… only to be asked to meet with yet another random group of team-members who might finally be able to help make a decision. I suggest avoiding this company at all costs
