I applied through the company's career page for an Analyst role with their Business Development team. I received an email from one of the managers to set up a videoconference call as first step in the interview, and I was told the next step in the process included a financial modeling exercise. My experience with Royal Caribbean was absolutely horrible. My call was supposed to be with 2 managers from the business development team, but only one of the managers ended up joining the call. Following the interview, I was told that they would reach out to me with next steps, but I never heard anything from their part the following working week. Seven working days following my initial interview, and still not having heard anything from one of the managers who had initially reached out, I sent an email to both of them thanking them for their consideration. My email was ignored. Two days later, I received an autogenerated notification from the company's HR system that I was no longer being considered for the role with no additional communication from the managers. Subsequently, I reached out directly to the first manager who I still had had no contact with for weeks (and who had failed to join the initial phone call that he had scheduled), inquiring why I hadn't heard anything from their part during the process. First thing the next morning, I received a response with an apology, claiming that it was a very busy time for their department. This manager failed to answer my question, and went on to state that they had decided to move forward with other candidates without detailing why. I sent a reply asking, from their perspective, if there was a particular reason why this manager had decided not to move my candidacy forward through the process (bearing in mind that this manager and I had never spoken), and failed to receive a response back. There were a couple of things I could have done differently during this process, so I shoulder some of the blame. Someone who fails to show up to a phone call that he or she schedule should have been the first red flag. However, I would advise anyone interviewing for the business development team of this company to tread carefully. My impression of this team is that they are unprofessional, passive aggressive, and peddle a fanciful facade of always being busy in order to pick and choose how to allocate their time. At the end of the day, they're selling vacation packages, not curing cancer.
