I interviewed with their Head of Talent and we had a very productive conversation. He set me up to speak with one of their, seemingly, junior engineers who had been handling some of their recruitment efforts thus far. During that interview this engineer spend a majority of the time speaking about how he and his team utilize their ChatGPT and similar licenses to ensure optimal usage. He asked some questions that were written down in front of him (clearly AI generated questions), and stumbled on many of the questions I asked at the end regarding the company’s ethos. As a senior-level recruiter, the state of our profession is in a negative spiral, not because of AI, per se, but because of who utilizes it and how it is utilized. Needless to say I never heard back from the Head of Talent, which is a shame because I have been fortunate to have been very successful in the type of recruitment experience he was seeking. Albeit, if you are relying on junior engineers who are unable to explain some of the basics about your company and it’s mission, you may end up on the losing end of talent acquisition.
