Project Coordinator/Entry Level Project Manager Interview

      26 May 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      North Hollywood, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SADA (North Hollywood, CA) in May 2015

      Interview

The overall interview process was very straightforward and short. I applied online and 3 days later received an email for a Google Hangouts interview from the project management office. The Google Hangouts interview was supposed to be 3 of us but ended up being 2 but could be up to 5. We were tasked with creating a short presentation on: 1. Why we want to work at SADA 2. Why we are qualified for the position During this Google Hangouts interview, the interviewer asked us to share our screens so they could see our process and how we created the presentation. We got 15 minutes for the presentation and then presented to the whole group. Once we all presented, the interviewer asked each of us questions and gave us the chance to ask questions as well. The interviewer was very nice and very friendly. Immediately following the Google Hangouts interview, the interviewer emailed me to request an in person interview for the next day. I was tasked with reading up on a product they were working on and would present my findings during the interview. The first in-person interview was simple but kind of hard. I met with a PM who would be on my team. We went over my resume and my current/most relevant position. Some questions were very technical, which was the only difficult part of the interview. Otherwise, mostly getting to know me, my current position and how it would translate. He asked me what network solutions I have worked on, if any. But overall, a nice person, friendly interview, and casual setting. 4 days later, I received a call to come in for a second interview and meet with someone higher up in what would be my department. Their questions were more position, industry, and technical related. This person was not as friendly, and more direct and just wanted to get information from me. Less casual interview. They stated themselves that they were more virtual than interpersonal in terms of their role. Standard interview, asked me questions, let me ask a few and gave a brief overview of the position and team. The next day I received a generic HR email saying I was not selected. I reached out to the Google Hangouts interviewer as I was told the two interviewers report to them and asked what happened since from Glassdoor, second interviewees usually get the position. They simply told me they were looking for someone more technical. While I appreciate the opportunity this company gave me to interview, I felt as though they wasted my time because from the first moment, my capabilities were known. I never said I was IT proficient, and the job description didn't ask for it either. My current role is the exact title I applied for so to hear that they were looking for someone more technical was frustrating. I passed 2/3 interviews and didn't get the position for something they knew from day 1 I didn't possess. That is the only part of this interview that was unprofessional and a huge waste of both our times. In addition, they're in North Hollywood and I'm in Irvine so it was very frustrating traveling that far twice when they could've dismissed me early on, either after the Google Hangouts interview or even before that, since it was clear that the position nor I required IT proficiency. Advice: if you're applying for this position, be IT proficient, even if it doesn't ask for it. otherwise you're wasting your time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What are your weaknesses and strengths? In 5 years, what do you want to have achieved? Describe your current role and what you do? Have you ever been in in a position where a client is irate? What did you do? What would you consider the focal points of IT to be? Do you know what services SADA Systems provides? Have you have any work experience with IT or network solutions?
