      Field Engineer Interview

      20 June 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at SLB in Jan 2011

      Interview

Applied online in November and received an invitation late December for an onsite assessment in January. Was asked to prepare some slides about myself. Arrived early morning by plane and went to SLB's facilities. There were a total of 15 candidates. First we introduced ourselves, then performed some group assignments (building a paper tower), before individual tests (logical, mathematical, mechanical). After lunch we toured the facilities and work shops. Had dinner at night with the recruiter. Next day we presented our slides for the rest of the group and 4 representatives from SLB while they ask critical questions. The trick here is to not expose yourself too much, be short and precise. After a break, where the 4 SLB reps decided on who to hire and not (you are not told), there was 1 on 1 interviews where you got the chance to ask questions and express your interests in locations or business segments. There was a practical test at the end where you had to build a valve in 5 minutes from a bunch of pieces and a drawing. I consider this the toughest task, but not the most important. Even candidates who failed this test got a job offer. The interview was very professional and well planned. Their recruiter is a tough woman with a background as field engineer for SLB and can answer pretty much any question, unlike most recruiters or HR. I got a job offer by e-mail 1 week later and I think many of the other candidates did too.

      Interview

It was an on campus hiring. First they shortlisted based on CV. Then second round was group discussion where we were given abstract topics like "Half filled glass of water" and were asked to discuss. This was also an eliminatory round. The final round was more of a HR round, they asked behavioural questions, few puzzles (very easy) and general knowledge questions
