      Business Development Manager Interview

      16 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at STL

      Interview

I applied directly to the company after seeing an ad for the BDM role on Linked In. I was then contacted by one of the senior team there. I then had a 30 minute call arranged with them and that went well. I was then called in to the offices in Limehouse to do an extensive presentation on my first 2 (Yes 2!) years at the business. I went in and met with pretty much most of the business and presented my plan concisely, accurately via an clear Powerpoint presentation and printed matter as well. I spent a tremendous amount of time preparing and felt that I would be a great fit for them with the background in Technology sales I had, however after keeping me waiting over a week, I was EMAILED a rejection. Bear in mind there were 4 other shortlisted applicants for the role and I got a lousy email after the effort I made. I was offered a 'free course' for my trouble, I never responded, as I felt that was a insult to my efforts. However a valuable lesson learnt, and I am now happy in my current role.

I just wanted to share an extract from an internal email that I shared which was related to this review. We totally respect that whilst we aim for a supportive process, it's not always going to land well, and we apologise to the reviewer if they were left with a less than fair impression of us . We always have more to learn and I'm happy you've found a good place in your current role. ".....sometimes we’re too forthright in our candour and process, it can leave a prospect feeling they have already succeeded in the process, when clearly it’s a process with other people, furthermore we want to nurture an environment where both parties can get to know each other, but have grace in accepting that the fit may not be right even after considerable investment by both sides."
