I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Sage Educators (Larkspur, CA) in July 2023
Interview
There was a 30 min zoom interview, followed by a short and informal office visit. They asked a lot of specific questions about my background and I feel they thoroughly learned about me before the interview and tailored the questions to my specific background. It was less formal interview questions and more of an expansion/conversation about my experience and interests. Everyone I met with was very kind and seemed like they would be great to work with. Unfortunately I was unable to accept the offer because of the relatively low pay (in my opinion) and poor benefits. The position was listed on Indeed at $30-$40 an hour, but in the interview I found out that you are paid $15.50 (minimum wage) all of the hours that you are NOT tutoring or doing higher level "director work". The $30-40 pay is only for the hours that you are tutoring (about 5-7 hours a day) or doing upper level work. They offer 3 paid sick days (the legal minimum in California) and no additional PTO. There are scheduled breaks that align with the school calendar, but they are unpaid. They encouraged negotiation, but the PTO is non-negotiable, the $15.50 base pay is non negotiable, and they were only willing to come up to $31 from their original offer of $30. Also keep in mind that they work Sunday-Thursday from 2-10 pm. As I said before, very very kind and cool people that seem like they would be fun to work with, but I do not find this offer to be competitive.
