      Finance Manager Interview

      7 June 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Issaquah, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at SanMar (Issaquah, WA) in May 2018

      Interview

I felt the application/interview process was a complete waste of my time. I submitted an application online and was quickly contacted by H/R requesting that I provide some days for a phone screen. I provided multiple options and waited several days where I heard nothing in response; I reached out via email to ask whether any of those days worked. They apologized for not responding and we scheduled a day and time. I provided a phone number for them to use. less than an hour before the interview, the H/R representative emailed me and asked if we could reschedule for Monday (this was Friday), because she had some meetings come up. I stated that I would be out of town on Monday and provided other dates, but it turns out she needed to present the candidates to management on Monday. She then asked if I was free at that very moment. I said sure, and then waited 10-15 minutes for her to call me, and then she used the wrong phone number. Once the interview began it was a quick discussion - nothing out of the ordinary and most questions were already answered by the resume and cover letter I submitted. I felt the process was unprofessional for multiple reasons. 1. I put a lot of effort into my resume and cover letter; I also took the time to fill out a laborious online application that had technical hiccups. I also spent time researching the company and business model. Given interviews are a two-way street, I think it is reasonable to expect the hiring company to take the time to read what candidates submit prior to an interview. 2. Re-scheduling an interview less than an hour in advance due to other meetings (i.e., not an emergency) is rude and shows a lack of respect for a candidate's time. 3. Using the wrong phone number after I provided a specific number to call (and reminded them of it just prior to the call), in addition to the whole way the interview scheduling was handled, showed a complete lack of interest. My reaction at the time was plain irritation. I was made to feel as if this interview was not important and they just needed to get it out of the way. SanMar contacted me to schedule an interview. SanMar selected the date and time. SanMar had all of my work history information, references, skills, etc. The interview did nothing to answer any questions further and was mostly to tell me about the job. While I am more than qualified for this position, I am not sure why they contacted me given the complete lack of interest they displayed in our communications; I was neither surprised nor disappointed that they chose to move forward with other candidates. This methodology is not a good way to attract talent to an organization.
