      Buyer for Procurement Department Interview

      27 Mar 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Sears in Jan 2009

      Interview

First round of interview was conducted on campus at the career service office. Around 50 students from various universities all across the country were invited to on site interview in Chicago Sears headquarter. My flight arrived in Chicago @ 2am and the interview was 8am! I barely got any sleep the night before the interview. The interview lasted a whole day. We were first given a big presentation about Sears from the senior managers then students were divided into smaller groups depending on the job functions. The most difficult part was the role play group interview in a closed meeting room. We were given a case to discuss. Each candidate has to pick and speak for a character in the case. There are two observers(interviewers) in the room taking notes. I am a number person. Compared to marketing major students, I am not good at selling my ideas. I am among the only three MBA students with real work experiences. Before graduate school, I was a product manager for two years and I speak two foreign languages. I could have been a darn good buyer for them but they seems to want sales people only.
