I went through an external recruitment company. I was scheduled in for an interview with the Hiring Manager who instead of interviewing me for the role, simply quizzed me over the phone. I find that this is such an outdated way to interview candidates. It reflects poorly on the calibre of management within the team and the company is simply hiring for the technical ability without any assessment of cultural fit, background, and experience. The answers to these types of questions can simply be Googled and for someone who has the ability to be resourceful, will know exactly what to look for and that is part of a DevOps engineer’s toolset. It clearly shows that the company does not put a lot of care and time into who they hire.
A few days later I received feedback from the hiring manager that they were not moving forward with my candidacy as they had assumed that I had more Windows experience than Linux although there were no questions made related to Windows to assess my skills correctly, they were merely assumptions.
