      Account Manager Interview

      17 July 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Show Media (New York, NY) in July 2011

      Interview

Showmedia's interview process was redundant and a huge waste of time. For the entry-level position I was applying for, they ran me through an almost-six week process, showing little regard for my time and their own efficiency. First, I took a personality test. A week later, they asked me to write short answers, take an IQ test, and take another personality test. THEN I finally had what I thought would be my final interview--it wasn't. I showed up at the company itself, ready for behavioral questions, and all I got was an informal chat about my resume. (This was 3+ weeks in, btw). The interviewer was nice enough but when I asked about next steps, seemed unclear. I was in the process of interviewing at other places by this time so they promised to get back to me soon. They didn't. Instead, they e-mailed me to see if I could find a time to meet with the company CEO for the "final" interview. I gave them a list of availabilities and when they didn't respond for several days, e-mailed them back. I got a call a few days later saying they'd like me to come in--but not to meet with the CEO. So I showed up again, wearing my suit. The guy interviewing me looked bored and hadn't even read my resume... Nor did he seem to have talked to my first interviewer. When I asked, "How do you give employees feedback at Showmedia?" he shrugged and said that there wasn't really a process, that only sales mattered. That wasn't really my question, but okay. At the end, I asked about next steps. He promised to get back to me "in a few weeks." Fortunately, soon after that, I got an offer from another company and took that. It seems like Showmedia runs a pretty cool business, but this whole process really soured me on it, and you should take that into account before you think about applying.
