I know the editor-in-chief personally, so the interview process was relatively short and involved asking my writing experience, availability and acceptance of contract pay. Once we had discussed these, I was put in touch with the editor for our local paper and was given my first two assignments. He was very helpful and worked with me to understand my background, writing style, and editorial needs.
