I had a 1-hour interview in the Atlanta office for a position I found on Glassdoor.com. When I arrived 15 minutes early there was no one at the front desk, so I took a seat in the waiting area. About 10 minutes after my interview was supposed to begin, I was introduced to the recruiter and we sat down to begin. The recruiter was very personable, but from the very beginning everything seemed a bit odd. Most of the interview was the "get to know you" style without much actual discussion about qualifications for the position. I told him I had applied to the same position through Glassdoor and LinkedIn, but that I had not seen the same listing open on the Slalom website. His reply indicated that they don't really do a good job of keeping most listings up-to-date unless they are in need for the position. It seemed clear that this is the reason so many people have different experiences in length of the interview process. Being a consulting firm, my observation is that if they need to fill a position immediately you will interview and have an offer in a matter of days, but if they like you and don't have a position open for you, they will string you along and spread things out for weeks while leaving you hanging between interviews until a position opens, hoping you'll still be in the job market. Back to my experience...at the end of the hour he asked if I had any questions, which he happily answered. He didn't mention anything at the end of the interview about being in contact of what the next steps were, so I immediately presumed he would not be in contact with me again. It’s possible the position I applied for wasn't really open after all, or that I am not "big 4" enough for Slalom. With 10 years of career experience in small consulting firms, I pride myself on not conducting my business like a large firm by-product. In the end I'm probably not a good fit for Slalom, but after my experience with the interview Slalom is simply a large firm that struggles with accepting that image.

I was invited to one of the Slalom Experience events. This was a great way to get to know some of the folks and the recruiter at the company. It was followed by a phone screen, 3 technical interviews, and a personality interview at the end. The technical interviews were difficult, but not impossible and thoroughly tested my skillset I had on my resume.
