I applied on the hospital website for their new grad RN position in the urgent care department. I received a message a week later to do a phone interview with the hiring manager. It was just basic questions like your experience when doing your clinical while in nursing school, what's your ideal department to work in, what are you looking to gain by working at this hospital and a behavioral question about conflict with another nurse. It took a couple of days until they ask that I go on site to do a second interview. Finding parking was tough but after going around, someone left so I got a spot.
The interview was with the manager of the urgent care department and she basically communicate that she is looking to increase the retention of the department since they have a high turnover rate. She asked more about my time when doing my clinical hours and dealing with difficult patients. How would I handle a situation if I have multiple patients, how would I prioritize which patient needs more attention and what department is my ideal choice to work in. I heard back a week later that I was offered the position and that I would have to go to another hospital in Van Nuys to do my drug test. I also had to do a background check and drop off the paperwork at their Van Nuys hospital.
