I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Space Coast Credit Union (Melbourne, FL) in Feb 2026
Interview
Disappointing interview process that is lagging way behind the current reality of software engineering. Really no practical or relevant skill assessment. They wanted me to rank myself on a scale of 1-10 on various skills, but didn't seem interested in hearing my explanations for each ranking. Just "Sooo...on a scale of 1-10?"
Followed by a bunch of what I like to call "Software Developer Trivia" - things that nobody actually has memorized or would ever need to have memorized for the job, because it would take 10 seconds to refresh one's memory with a quick Google search. They test you solely on rote memorization without assessing your ability to quickly find relevant information and documentation - which of course, you're not allowed to use during the interview. I was met with a disappointed silence just for asking if I could look through some notes I had written down in advance.
They had me do FizzBuzz, which was almost an insultingly simple code challenge for someone with over 10 years of experience. Not even iterating through an array or sorting or anything. Just a basic conditional statement. They must have thought I fabricated my 10 years of experience giving me such a basic test. The entire process felt insulting and impractical.
The pay that was being offered was pretty disappointing for the level of random trivia they expected you to be able to answer off-the-cuff. And they only offer contract-to-hire. Thankfully I had another job already lined up for far better pay and was just interviewing here as a backup plan, but their interview annoyed me so much that I wish I hadn't even done it at all.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Space Coast Credit Union (Melbourne, FL) in June 2021
Interview
The first interview was fine and what you would expect, however, to then required a second interview with a four person panel inquiry for an entry level position was over the top considering the applicant had experience and came as a referral.

Question 1
Tell us about a time where you handled a difficult situation.
Initial screening with recruiter, then interview with HM.
Then was ghosted. They asked for my portfolio, and I sent it to them, followed up, and never received a response. The HR generalist was super nice when explaining the hiring process. I just assume they were bombarded with candidates & opportunities, so they weren't able to update everyone.
