I interviewed for spacelift as a backend Software Engineer.
The technical interview process was really great and I really enjoyed being interviewed by the developers and doing the technical exercise. I got a very constructive feedback on it and we were able to discuss about it in the following interview, which was great. I really, really enjoyed the posture.
Then came the offer step. I got to talk with a recruiter asking me for my salary expectations and seeing that the application had a salary range and I checked every single requirement and the interview went well, I requested a value close to the maximum value.
When the recruiter got back to me he told me that value was for people with a lot more experience and offered me a much lower salary than I was expecting.
I tried to negotiate for a higher value but the recruiter showed incredible inflexibility. He showed no attempts to see if the salary could have been increased, showing complete disregard for my feedback, which was quite unsettling in my opinion on top of bluntly lying about salary ranges that a simple Google search can disprove it, which made me lose faith in the transparency of the company.
I could have settled just for a little higher as a good gesture of the company and my expectations but ultimately the inflexibility made me refuse the offer.
