      Product Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Springboard

      Interview

The interview process was pretty quick— one Google Hangouts interview with a designer on the team, followed by an onsite. The onsite consisted of a 2-hour design exercise (alone in a room) and 3 one-on-ones. The interviewers requested deliverables of any fidelity + a brief presentation of the design exercise. The 2-hour length was awkward, and made it difficult to do anything super high-fidelity (considering I also had to prep for the presentation). Considering that I was alone working on the exercise, it didn't give much insight into my collaboration skills either. The exercise also has to do with Springboard's existing site which is taboo in the design world and makes it challenging to succeed when presenting to a panel of individuals with a much broader knowledge base than oneself. I would suggest making this a 1-hour exercise and adding in a portfolio presentation instead. Otherwise, the one-on-ones were pretty straightforward, and the team was very nice. I liked having lunch with someone from the broader Springboard org. TL;DR: Make the design challenge a 1-hour collaborative whiteboarding session and have a portfolio presentation instead.
