      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Square Enix (Los Angeles, CA) in Feb 2019

      Interview

They were very timely and with both interviews. HR was very nice, answered all questions and gave honest answers. Ended up not getting an offer but the experience was all fine.

      Project Manager Interview

      17 Mar 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Tokyo
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Square Enix (Tokyo) in Mar 2014

      Interview

The listed position was a non-technical position but with a technical position. I am a technical guy, but lately I focus on management which for me was an exact match so I applied. I was excited to offer Square Enix my skills in managing through bureaucracy which it is know to have lots of. What I was surprised is that even the hiring process is so bureaucratic that it is not really worth it. The JD was in Japanese and required me to apply using their own web own interface, but the response took over 3 weeks. The first email I got was a Japanese email that required a 400 character explanation of what kind of skills I have gained and how I would make use of those skills at Square-Enix. After writing a 500 letter explanation of how I would help them get through their bureaucratic issues and return them to the "Speed of Business" ethic. So when I go to the interview, the interviewer told me he had not even read my 500 character essay. He then proceeded to ask me how I would build a phone/communication system. It was more than questions, he was trying to gather information while interviewing me because he had not done his homework. At the end of the interview he said he will ask HR about the essay. But the next workday I got a rejection letter. So to me, obviously, the right hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing in that company.

      Question 1

Interviewer did not read the essay HR required me to write, but he asked me for free consulting regarding a global communication workflow/system.
