I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Staples in Aug 2010
Interview
Internal recruiter initially conducted a very thorough phone screen. Was scheduled for 30 minutes but lasted 50. She asked very probing and insightful questions but in a very conversational, friendly manner. The interaction was a very positive first point of contact.
Second step entailed being contacted by an HR rep who was diligent in reaching me with a request to come in for an interview...she left a detailed voicemail and followed with an equally effective email. Also requested that I take a personality test prior to the interview.
During my visit I met with the recruiter again who was terrific in going through the personality test results and what they meant from the company's point of view. She also was very helpful in prepping me for the next meeting with the hiring manager.
Hiring manager visit was scheduled for 30 minutes and she took 45 minutes to make sure my questions were answered. Best part of the process was that the hiring manager clearly took a big picture view of her department and although I was interviewing for a specific position, we discussed other needs within her department that were potential an even better fit. Following the interview, I was informally introduced to others in the department, including the administrative team. The experience provide great insight into the personalities of the group and the interactions between them all.
In total, a first rate interview process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Was provided with a sample business case study, including empirical data, and was asked to interpret the information and make strategic recommendations on the spot.
The recruiter scheduled a phone screen for Wednesday but she called me on Tuesday, which I couldn't answer because I work full time.
I sent an email to make sure my appointment was outstanding but I never got a response from her.
You wasted my time and your attitude is very unprofessional and rude. I am glad I learned Staples is a terrible place to work even before I would waste more of my time there.
I applied through university. I interviewed at Staples (Boston, MA)
Interview
1 Interview with 3 people from the company at the same time. It was difficult because all these people were from different teams and it was hard to try and please everyone.
