      Software Engineer Interview

      2 Dec 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Star Labs in Oct 2020

      Interview

Top Brass called me to be rude to me about my qualifications. this is a basic well rounded factual description of the call. I was told that I was not remotely qualified to my face over the phone, instead of via email which spiraled into ego vs id in front of my eyes. It was absolutely demoralizing and inhumanizing and it was a red flag top brass was the caller. I of course, having an excellent gpa, work experience in big tech, etc. said that nothing was beneath me and that with mentorship I could learn in a few weeks what others could in years. really sold myself. he hit me with the chadwick boseman "we don't do that here" for mentorship and said they only hire people they don't think would need help and weren't interested in personal development. This was shortly after they said MONTHLY they did a day of personal development. If every friday was for personal development and assisting on boards, you could probably build a strong baseline group of engineers in 6 months. From the reviews it seems like they've failed to do that in their entire tenure. Management claimed their interns were better than X than me, etc. but the fact that they called me when they said I had no relevant experience on the phone, seems to indicate that is a lie. After all, what value did I have other than to stroke their ego, and waste their time, if they didn't absolutely need to hire somebody?

      Anonymous interview candidate

      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Star Labs (Woodland Hills, CA) in Mar 2016

      Interview

VP did a phone screen with some basic CS questions and then arranged for an on-site interview shortly afterwards via email. On-site felt extremely disorganized, was given a random person's laptop which wasn't charged and a marker on a glass tabletop to workout the problem. The entire process seemed haphazardly managed and was generally chaotic after the initial phone screen.
