Standardized interview with panel of two. Lasted maybe 45 minutes with predetermined questions and grading system. Then I had to do a written assignment on drafting a documented counseling recommendation to management. Overall they shared the department was severely understaffed and the work needed would be to catch up on the backlog. Was not offered but probably wouldn’t have accepted either.
I applied online. I interviewed at State of Hawaii

Applied for the 2026, legislative session: On Dec 2025, interviewed with the PR department and went through a standard list of questions which resulted to a 2nd follow up interview.
On Jan 2026, interviewed with Senator Fevella of Ewa Beach. His office called and said I could work the next day according to his assistant that made the interview appointment. When I went to the interview, the Senator and I had talked at great length regarding the homeless crisis which he seemed to be keenly aware of from both sides (from npos and homeless). Towards the end of the interview, he suggested he would make an introduction to a board member of my former employer. Following the meeting, I followed up with an email to his office which he did not acknowledge or respond as requested. In this regard, I believe such meetings could produce positive outcomes by simple and easy to do activities. 1) Nowadays software solutions can write a considerate and encouraging email to all candidates. 2) It would also be a great opportunity to update people on the causes of public offices as well as garner support.
