Recruiter reached out to me about a different role than the one I applied for. I discussed my background during the phone screen and she decided to put me through to the hiring manager as the next step. While the recruiter explained the difference between the role I applied for and the one she wanted to talk to me about, she didn’t have a formal job description to share with me, nor an official title. She said the hiring manager would be able to give me more details.
Over a week later, I talked to the hiring manager. She asked pretty standard situational questions, but she only left 5 minutes for me to ask questions about this mysterious role. I didn’t learn anything more about the role than what the recruiter had told me in my first call.
There was radio silence for 1 week after the hiring manager screen, so I followed up with the recruiter for an update. She told me they felt I would be a better fit for a different role on the team and that she would connect me with the recruiter for that role once she was able to confirm there was a headcount. She never did connect me with anyone else, nor did she respond to my question about whether or not there was a job description to share for this so-called other role.
My conversations with Stripe started at the end of January and to this day (in mid-March) I have still not received any sort of follow up or rejection from the recruiter. This wasn’t an entirely unpleasant experience, but it seems Stripe’s recruiters have difficulty rejecting candidates and thus resort to ghosting them. This is unprofessional and they should do better.
