      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Swenson He (Marina del Rey, CA) in Aug 2016

      Interview

First I spoke with the business development side of the organization. Then I got to meet all the members of my project team, over several stages, first on the phone and then in person. Each person had a technical side to their interview of me, covering a different focus from iOS, to Android, to REST API interaction. Each also had a more personal side to the interview where we had friendly conversation, since folks at Swenson He definitely look for more than just employees in the people they bring onboard.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked to outline a REST API request call and response for a mobile app comprising a grid of images (which is a pretty standard UI). This was a good question since it required me to think about asynchronous processing as well as layout constraints and error-handling.

      Interview

I got head hunted, reached by the HR. Had an initial HR interview, the a technical interview, and a coding challenge. The process was well operated and with a smooth communication from both HR and hiring manager sides. The interview questions were direct and structured. Nothing unexpected. The whole cycle went relatively quickly; thankfully.

What is the rate per hour required?

      Question 2

Are you ok to work according to PST zone?

      Interview

One phone interview and one coding interview. Coding interview is basic, and it has no time limit. And there is no requirement for time efficiency. As the company is small, they are looking for someone who can code, and that's it.Phone interview is mostly brain teaser, not technical at all.

      Question 1

Brain teasers during phone interview, totally unexpected

Thank you for your feedback and apologies for the late response! We are very sorry the impression you got was that we are just “looking for someone who can code” as this is not the case. As a small company with high-quality standards, we look for talented software engineers who like to solve challenging problems and think on a different level. Our interview process therefore includes several steps to assess interpersonal skills, for a good corporate culture fit, as well as logic and technical skills. We hope this answer, although it is probably too late, will help you better understand what we are/were looking for.
