I filled an online profile creation through their software. There is not interview process. So they do provide you with a software interface where you can put up your profile, publish your hourly rates, whether or not you are available for in-home lessons. To get their background check certified instructor, you need to pay them and in a few days the software will say that you are background certified. You need to do this every year. They keep a % of your earnings which decreases as you add hours to your tutoring business.
Mind you, you generate your own business. There is no assistance in getting you clients. Often after their "following up" students disappear! I am not quite sure, but sometimes you will get fishy emails regarding whether you are available to teach a peripheral subject. These are always a waste of time. And if someone whom you have not even tutored, don't even know, leaves you a negative review, they will not help you eliminate it.
Honestly, most my students were found word of mouth and outside of Takelessons. Their response time to help with getting a student signed up sucks. If they think you are in "violation" of their policy, they will shut down your chat with your student. There is no due process. I think there is a group of friends sitting in a living room in San Diego who are running this business
