Phone interview “Hello, is this (blank)?” Yes. “Are you looking for new opportunities, because I reviewed your resume and you’re an excellent candidate for our Cleaning Porter position. The job duties are (emptying trash, sweeping floors, picking up cigarette butts and dusting fixtures in warehouse, things like that).” I politely interrupted and said excuse me, I have applied to a few jobs through your site and have never heard back regarding any applications. I hold an undergraduate degree, have 15 years of professional work experience (PM, consultant, corporate manager), how does anything you just said match with my resume. “Oh…….yes, I do see that in our system, but you were not a fit for any of those positions.” I said you have over 500 to 600 positions on your site at any given time, several of which match the exact positions I have held. “Yeahhhhh, you weren’t a fit for those.” How is that possible, but I’m a perfect fit for the most basic labor job of sweeping floors? “So, you’re not interested in this Cleaning Porter role?” I said it sounds like the perfect job for someone with your abilities. Have a good day! End of call. It seems like the bar for blatant stupidity and laziness keeps getting lower. I’ve been a hiring manager before and their incompetence shines there as well. I was forwarded countless resumes of janitors, convenient store workers, general laborers, for jobs requiring BS degrees and 3-5 years of direct experience. I guess recruiting and talent acquisition is a job for those with no brains. It’s one step above prostitution!
