      Analyst Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TeraGo (Toronto, ON) in July 2019

      Interview

Interview was very disorganized, I was initially told that I would meet with the Hiring Manager. Due to some miscommunication of some sort, she arrived 30 mins late for the interview. The interview went well, aside from being late, it was a pleasant interview. She then asked if I could stay a bit longer to meet with two other people within the company - a director and a VP. It was my second interview with the director that really made an impression. He came in and made an off-color joke about how the hiring manager was "very nice to look at, if you know what I mean? *wink*". He also picked on the fact that I was studying for the CPA, saying that I was all over the place in terms of career direction, as in I am applying for a pricing role, but it looks like I am working to be an accountant. I pointed out that being a CPA does not necessarily mean I can only be an Accountant. I was already working in pricing at my current company, and I was encouraged by my current employer to pursue a CPA! It was frustrating to be criticized on my career choices by someone who had no idea what a CPA was. In hindsight, I felt I should have walked out of the interview, especially after the bad "joke". The main reason I applied was because I lived very close to the company. However, after the interview, I realized that in terms of company culture and career growth, my current company exceeded what Terago had to offer. An interview goes both ways, and I don't think it would have been a good fit for me personally. Other than that, the other people I met at the company seemed nice enough.

      Question 1

Why are you pursuing a CPA for? Are you trying to go into accounting? Will the fact that you are studying impact your ability to work a full-time job?
