I applied online. I interviewed at Tesla (San Jose, CA) in Feb 2021
Interview
Initial recruiter call, technical call with hiring manager, technical call will staff engineer, and the presentation and panel interview. The first three interview weren't bad at all, but the panel interview was brutal. I took a day off work, which is fine, but definitely a bummer if you don't get an offer.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Tesla (Palo Alto, CA) in Apr 2026
Interview
Very disorganized. Recruiters didn’t know what they want and didn’t care about the process. The team managers/leads that I interviewed with were mostly young people with not enough experience or deep knowledge.
4 Interviews: 1 Phone Screen with a recruiter, 2 Technical Interviews where they ask about your resume and technical questions about how you implemented your design, and 1 Panel interview with a presentation

Ask them a lot of technical questions, using products they have worked on (or projects you have specifically sought out based on their experience) to come up with three to four big questions.
