      Editor Interview

      10 Mar 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at The Jurni in Jan 2024

      Interview

They advertised for an 'Editor' role on LinkedIn. In response to my application, I got an email mentioning 'Assistant Editor' as the job instead. They wanted me to go through an assessment that entailed writing content similar to their newsletter. It was pretty extensive. Before I did the test, I asked for clarification on why the position was different from the one advertised, whether they planned to use my content in their magazine, and what pay they were offering. In response, I got a call a couple of weeks later, in which I was told they changed the name of the role so as not to give the candidates the idea that this was a leadership position. That the hiring process involved 4 rounds of interviews in addition to the test and the screening call, but that they didn't have a set budget and couldn't tell me anything about the pay, not even a broad range (!!). I still sent the test but received no response. Upon following up, I was told there was no update and that they'll keep me posted, but nah, they simply ghosted. It is quite callous and unprofessional to make candidates jump through so many hoops without offering any clear information, and actively misstating facts on job platforms. The job search process is difficult enough without this rude treatment.

      Application

      Interview

I recently interviewed with the newsletter. I thought I should write this because having worked at a few places that have some major red flags which are easy to miss, I understand how difficult it is to tell how much a company is going to respect you as an employee. I received first communication around 20 days after applying for the position. I received it well after midnight. The next interviews happened quite quickly, within a few days. I followed up after a week, to which I received a rejection email. The day after the rejection email, I got a call telling me that they would like to offer me a different position. At this new interview call, they continued to interview me for the previous position. At this point, I was already holding back from accepting another offer. Since they had sent me a rejection email, I had accepted the other one. But as I was enthusiastic to work here, I called those people again and said to give me three more days. I told this to the interviewers and they said they will get back to me in three days. After three days, I sent in a reminder email. And I never received any answer from them. I would really suggest the management to be more respectful of candidates' time and for other candidates to be mindful of the fact that such practices are usually blaring red flags.
