I applied online and received an email about a week later inviting me to a phone interview with a recruiter. We talked about my background and motivation for 15-20 minutes.
A few days later, the recruiting team contacted me and ask me to take a test. The recruiter had warned me that something like 15% of the candidates passed this test and it was known to be difficult. The test consisted of a document I had to complete in 4 hours and another one I had to send back in 24 hours. All the documents were sent together. I had to correct and translate various material in my target language, ranging from press releases to in-game text. It didn't seem particularly difficult compared to other works I've done, except that I found the 4-hour timeframe a bit short to review everything properly without being familiar with the company practices and guidelines.
A few days later, I received an email from the recruiter informing me I did not pass the test and he could not explain why. I was a bit disappointed that it was not the recruiting team getting back to me and that they would not give me any feedback since I had to book a full 24 hours slot just to pass their test. I wrote back to the recruiter to ask if he knew anything about where I failed and he told me he could not give a personalized answer. However, he explained that each candidate is individually rated according to his work and the mistakes he made while reviewing the test material. It seemed I did not get a high enough mark - the recruiter could not tell me which mark I got but he said experience usually makes a big difference in the results.
It was a bit frustrating to get such a weak feedback after all the personal time I invested in the process. Since I already have experience in localization and language review, I don't really know what I could improve to get that kind of job at Pokémon or at similar company. I think the time would have been well invested if I had received at least some information related to that but I didn't so I have mixed feelings about the candidate experience. However, apart from that, the recruiter was extremely responsive and supportive, the recruiting team was very nice and polite in their communication and everything went quite quickly so I didn't have to stress out while waiting for an answer.
